Ku Klux Klan

The KKK have been in existence since 1866, mostly after the Civil War, and they are still in existence today. The KKK to me are considered a hate movement because they used violence, lynching, and other ways to oppress African-Americans, Jews, Hispanics, and other races that were considered minorities. The KKK was mostly in the South because there was a more African American presence in the South, but they were also located in the North too. Basically, the KKK is considered a hate movement because they did not like African Americans or any other minority group at all. They believed in a "White America." To fit my project format, I will be concentrating on the later klans from the 1950s through the 1960s.

I think that this specific hate movement that happened in our country should have never happened and shouldn't happen again. I feel that you shouldn't hate or discriminate on a racial or minority group at all. They are what they are for a reason. The least you can do is get to know the people better instead of just creating less peace and more violence, and in this world we're trying to do the opposite. I oppose of ALL genocides and hate movements that have happened in our history. Basically, they are aimed towards a specific group of people and it's just cruel and unnecessary. I think we should pray that this never happens again and the resist to movements like this because in the end it's not the right and peaceful thing to do.

A clip from Ku Klux Klan: A Secret History.

KKK video that was posted on Fox News.

I think that this hate movement is important because it taught me that after many years of being active in the past, it's still active today. I don't get how an organization made up of discriminatory people can stay hating on a specific group of people. I guess it's true what they say about "Some people never change."

This is a really thorough post on the KKK. I like that you focused it mostly on one era.

When I move to Chicago in the late 90s and lived and worked in a completely Black American school and neighborhood, I was told that Indiana was the national headquarters of the KKK. I'd never really heard that before, but that was scary, so close to where I live.

I found this quote from my friends at the ADL:
"Indiana:
American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan - Possibly the most active Klan group in the 1990s, the American Knights are now nearly dead, with only a few members in Indiana.

Church of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan - Headquartered near South Bend, Indiana. It claims chapters in around 20 different states, in all parts of the country."

and later, on Chicago Tonight, I heard a bizarre story about a KKK scandal in Indiana in the 20s.

This link has the story as I remember it:

I know you had lots of info from a specific era, and it made me think of these.

i like the videos on the KKK and i think it shows alot about the way members of the KKK clan form, focusing on thier main point of view as the era was really good.

I did not know very much about the KKK until i read your post. I found it interesting and very disturbing that the KKK have been in America for more than a hundred years. I would have thought we had outgrown the childish racism that is the KKK. I liked the videos to because you can really see what they are like.
